Our mission
Sub Rosa Sound is an organization built upon four pillars - community, music, arts, and culture. We aim to support the art and music of underrepresented groups through immersive, multi-disciplinary, multi-genre, and often participatory experiences in unconventional settings, with a focus on locally-run spaces. We provide concerts, a podcast, a radio show, a platform for musicians and artists to receive financial support for their projects through grants and donations, and outreach to communities to deepen their value of the arts.
We began in 2018 as a locally-organized music series that put together secret shows around the East Bay. Our goal was to reconnect with the community without the internet as a filter, relying on word-of-mouth to find our audiences organically. From there, we grew into the online space with our podcast but maintained our commitment to in-person community building. World events in 2020 forced us to take everything online, but our commitment in 2023 remains what it was at the beginning - bringing people together to celebrate great music by independent artists of all genres.
